The Automation Engineer will be part of a team developing automated/robotic test equipment for the drilling industry. This position will focus on lab test systems for new drilling products. This position will be responsible for project success as part of a project team, ensuring all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed, interpreting requirements, identifying and addressing design parameters and engineering problems, and ensuring solutions are implemented accurately and within budget.

Job Duties:
• Controls and Automation engineer with role of designing and developing software for automated machinery based on given requirements and specification. Have a good understanding of machine controls which include induction motor control using AC Drives, servo motor control, MCCs, hydraulic/pneumatics.
• Develop machine control algorithms for PLC based control systems. HMI design and implementation, instrumentation and sensor interface, data logging, and communication interfaces with other industrial processors like PLC’s.
• Duties include bill of materials, network architectures, operations manuals.
• Commissioning and support of lab test systems
• Responsible for sustaining current rig applications and debugging / fixing issues that are reported.
• Support a positive and proactive HSE culture and ensure that all activities adhere to HSE Policy.
• Collaborate with other business functions, including QHSE, procurement, manufacturing, and quality.

Technical Competencies
• Beckhoff TwinCAT (IEC 61131-3)
• HMI: TwinCAT
• Understanding of Hydraulics/Pneumatics,
• AC drives and servo controls
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including OPC, MODBUS, EtherCAT, Ethernet IP, etc.
• Software architecture design and development experience
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• Understanding of communication protocols Profibus, Modbus, OPC, CAN, etc.
• Strong hands-on hardware troubleshooting and software debugging skills
• Project management and presentation skills
• Ability to extract and document requirements from user problem description
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from recognized University
• 5 years of experience in an engineering environment, developing controls and automation software.
• Beckhoff hardware, TwinCAT PLC programming and HMI Development preferred
• National Instruments hardware, LabView programming preferred
• Experience in the drilling industry preferred
